Overdress Vintage is excited to present thisincredible dress has been acquired from an estate sale in the US and is possibly and un labeled Ossie Clark cut in his signature black Moss crape. Having had these dresses before the cut and seems and buttons and loops and dog ear collar are indicative of Warrington born Clark’s style and the buttons have been covered in the same moss crepe as the dress is made from. They run from the top of the neck all the way to the waist so you can control just how plunged it is. Added to that it there appears to an indication on the dress where the label has been removed. This dress is probably in the best condition I have seen for a black crepe dress of this time. The fabric has retained its inky black colour and there is not a single hole or blemish. Uniquely this dress is finished with lace to the hem and cuffs which only adds to puritanical feel of the dress which even thoughyou are fully covered, it it is still sexy and chic.
As this was purchased at auction and from some research we have established and becuse this dress ended up in the US it may be an early Ossie Clark Sample or approved copy for US customers as his dresses has been know to have sell at auction unlabelled. Given the provenance of this lot it is possible that this dress was a replica as Clark’s designs were authorised to be reproduced for New York boutiques - something that happened a lot for European designers to enable them to meet the demand for their US fans.
Because of the provenance and the lack of label the dress has been priced accordingly. This is a truly spectacular dress either way reflecting the Chelsea Girl of the swinging 70s. A true one of kind with the hallmarks of Clark that collectors will recognise instantly.
